WIN Alliance - Outline

Aspiration

Perfection meets us more often than we think; so much so that we forget to notice it. We encounter it in the silvery blues of the sea, in the shapes of leaves and in the symmetry of a butterfly’s wings. It is not rare but ordinary; habit simply has a way of overwriting wonder. There is something marvelous, beyond comparison, in what simply doesn’t beg for change.

Yet, how do we see ourselves and each other? We seldom contemplate our own existence as “flawless” or “complete”. There is a constant yearning - to pursue transformation, to challenge what is, to create and recreate our outer and inner being. We project the self into the future with new abilities, tools and conquered boundaries. It becomes our direction and a measure of success.

It is at this crossroads that mindset and action meet. And from this fusion, aspiration is born – a constant search for possibility and purpose. Perhaps, it is among the core things that define us. It unifies us as a species and separates us from all others, as we know them. It does so without extracting us from nature.

In a world preoccupied with optimization and obsessed with fear of loss -of time, of self, of opportunity - perhaps we have come to confuse progress with perfection. The peak is only relevant when we know the mountain it stands upon. When we explore the paths that lead to it. If we can track who we become along the way.

Otherwise, life would be a pseudo story, a novel that contains nothing but the ending sentence. The very idea of “better” implies continuation - departure from point A advancing toward point B.  Not in a single straight line but in many irregular ones. In sinuous ones that test the will.

It is a testament to individual effort. It is recognition of all that came before us and inspired us. It is a way to celebrate not only the last brick we added but the structure that preceded it. Innovation may be about disruption, but it is not about erasing.

So, how can we translate all this, how does it find expression in practice? There is no universal answer or a rigid format to follow. However, a common spirit permeates our daily work. In this newsletter, you will read a series of interviews with people who have shaped the projects and community of WIN Alliance.

We learn from others - past generation and contemporaries, colleagues and competitors. We give credit to good ideas and their authors and we integrate them whenever possible. It is a pragmatic argument as much as it is moral because durable cities and societies rely on the cohesive effort of many. On coordination of thought and creativity. On a certain synchrony of aspiration.
